MISSION STATEMENT
To provide quality, safe and cost effective mental health and educational services to children and their families

HISTORY
The Woodbourne Center, a private nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization has a rich history of providing quality behavioral mental health and educational services to children and families. Woodbourne has traditionally worked with children and adolescents with behavioral mental health problems stemming from abuse and neglect, traumatizing life experiences and family histories of mental health problems. Most recently, Woodbourne has developed specific programs to meet the challenging needs of juvenile sex offenders and chronic juvenile offenders.

Woodbourne is one of the five oldest child welfare organizations in the United States and has been serving children since 1798 when it began as an orphanage. Woodbourne was licensed by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in 1970 as a Residential Treatment Center, an inpatient program for emotionally troubled adolescents. In the 1980's, Woodbourne began its expansion into community based services and programs. Specifically in 1987, at the request of the Social Services Administration, Woodbourne began operating a Children's Diagnostic Treatment Center, a program for children who are unable to stay in their homes or other placements and who require diagnostic assessment. Today, Woodbourne proudly operates six programs, serving over five hundred children and adolescents throughout our continuum, from three locations. Clients range in age from 6 to 18 years of age. Referrals are accepted from throughout Maryland.

Woodbourne's services are provided by employees who are committed to providing an integrated system of care incorporating all of the major components of service needs to "at risk" children and their families. Services are provided to children and adolescents in both communities as well as residential settings. Licensed medical professionals play a key role in successful health and program outcomes.
